Storytelling at the Grange
Vermont resident Samara Anderson has decided to host a storytelling event at every public library in Vermont. This creative endeavor began in May of 2024 and will continue until as many of the 185 Vermont public libraries as possible have hosted one of her storytelling events.
These performances are an amazing way to bring the community together to enjoy the creative and vulnerable act of storytelling. We hope you’ll join this event as storytellers and audience members, sharing and listening to true, spellbinding, and reflective narratives.
To be held at the Charlotte Grange Hall, in collaboration with our great friends at the Charlotte Library!
Please contact Samara Anderson to sign up to be a storyteller, or with any questions: anderson_samara@yahoo.com

Gathering Ingredients for a Harvest Soup at the Senior Center
We’re reaching out to local farms and community gardeners to ask if they have extra vegetables they’d like to contribute to make a delicious Harvest Soup for 60 people, to be served at the Charlotte Senior Center’s Monday Munch on October 13.
We hope to have everything gathered up by October 10 so the expert volunteers at the Senior Center can start chopping and cooking.
Do you expect to have a few extra . . . Beans, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Chard, Kale, Leeks, Onions, Spinach, Winter Squash - (Butternut, etc.)? Please do let us know!
We love collaborating with the Charlotte Senior Center and are so happy to help out with this project.

Talk, Tour, and Eat Pie Event
Come see the historic Charlotte Grange Hall, which was built in 1870 as a debating hall by the Young Men’s Literary Club. It then served as one of Charlotte’s one-room schoolhouses for almost 80 years and rang with children’s voices as they learned and laughed and grew up here.
Join architectural historian Frances Foster for a presentation of Vermont’s most prevalent architectural styles of the 19th century. Learn why Vermonters built quasi-Greek temples, why there is no such thing as a Victorian style of architecture, and other tidbits about Vermont’s built environment.
Foster, a graduate of the University of Vermont program in historic preservation, will show slides of buildings ranging from the Federal style through the late 1800s Colonial Revival.
She’ll be joined by other members of the Friends of the Lyceum Schoolhouse, a 501c3 nonprofit that supports the restoration of this historic hall in East Charlotte.
We’ll be serving free homemade pie to everyone who comes through the door!

Veteran's Town Hall
All are invited to a Vets Town Hall at the Charlotte Grange on Friday, November 14th, 2025, at 6:30pm. Veterans are invited to speak about what their service means to them. Non-veterans are encouraged to attend and listen. This event is free, non-political, and all perspectives are valued. There will be no debate on American foreign policy.
RSVPs are optional, but encouraged. Registration will open in September. Snacks will be available.
More information available at https://www.vtvetstownhall.org/event/charlotte-vets-town-hall/
What to Expect
For all attendees: All community members are invited to this event. Only veterans will speak, but non-veterans are encouraged to attend and listen. Throughout the event, you may hear something you agree or disagree with. You may have a question. Or you may want to say encouraging words with the intention to help. However, we ask that you please refrain from responding. We are simply here to listen and learn about what it was like to serve in the wars that this nation has chosen to fight.
For speakers: Tell us what your service means to you. Please tell us about your own experiences, whatever they may be, rather than speaking broadly about an issue or organization. You’re a member of our community, and it’s your stories, reflections, and insights that we’re anxious to hear. If you’re interested in speaking but aren’t sure what to speak about, click here for some questions that can serve as starting points. Each veteran will be given up to 10 minutes to speak. Veterans who would like to speak can mark that preference when registering. If you’re considering speaking but prefer not to register, we encourage you to attend. After pre-registered speakers go, the host will take speakers from the floor, time permitting. The goal is for every veteran who would like to speak to have a chance to do so. Of course, veterans (and all community members) are also welcome to simply attend and listen.

Our featured poet for the August poetry gathering is Jorden Blucher, of Charlotte. Jorden is the author of the blog: Quietly Making Noise; Rummaging Around for the Nuances of Life. https://quietlymakingnoise.net/ Jorden began writing poetry at the age of seventeen as a release of feelings surrounding fathering a child and then the death of a close friend. After graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design, Jorden worked in a variety of jobs before settling into a career as a stay-at-home Dad. Jorden is forthcoming about his journey with depression and its role in his artistic journey, and hopes his frankness will help others who struggle know they are not alone.

Worn American Flag Collection
Weather and the sun inevitably result in a worn-out flag. If your flag is tattered or soiled and it's time for a new one, the Charlotte Grange can help you make sure your old flag is taken care of properly.
On Memorial Day, the Grange will be collecting worn flags from our Charlotte cemeteries and taking them to the Vergennes American Legion to be "retired" in a Flag Day ceremony there. If you have a flag to dispose of, please bring it to the Charlotte Memorial Day event on Monday, May 26 at 9 AM at the Grandview Cemetery (403 Church Hill Rd.) OR drop off your flag at the Grange Hall (2858 Spear St.) May 24 - 31. There will be a covered bin in front of the Grange Hall.

Rebuilding Notre Dame with Will Gusakov
The Ferrisburg Historical Society has invited our Grange and the Charlotte Library, to join them to welcome speaker Will Gusakov at the Ferrisburg Community Center. A Vermonter with a very special French connection. He is a timber framer, working out of Lincoln, Vermont, and has been instrumental in building and repairing timber frame homes and barns in the area for years. But after a devastating fire in the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, he found himself called to work on helping to restore one of the most iconic buildings on the planet. He and his wife, along with their two young children, moved to France and helped recreate part of the roof structure of the cathedral in Normandy, which was eventually shipped to Paris for final installation. Now back in Vermont, Will will be discussing his experience using techniques dating to medieval times, and working with other tradespeople from many countries. We will also likely hear about some of his projects closer to home. Join us in Ferrisburg!
Their Ferrisburgh Town Offices and Community Center (3279 Route 7, Ferrisburgh) is a terrific space and has plenty of parking and wheelchair accessibility via elevator.

Our April 26 meeting has been rescheduled to this date: May 2, 8:30- 10 AM at the Grange Hall.
The Grange’s Program Committee is busy dreaming and planning this year’s events and invites you to join in on the fun. Everyone is welcome to help us plan events on an ongoing basis or to volunteer the day of an event! Our goal is to build community in all sorts of interesting ways. Please note: We usually meet monthly on the 4th Friday of the month, 8:30-10 AM at the Grange Hall.
