Poetry at the Grange - afternoon performance
Poets and poetry lovers are warmly invited to our monthly Poetry at the Grange series.
PLEASE NOTE NEW LOCATION: Charlotte Library
Thursday April 9th, there will be a special poetry performance: "Two Troubadours in Mud Time"
Cyrus Cook, a life-long poet and English teacher, joins Nick Carter, a musician since his youth, to bring to the Charlotte Grange their shared passion for poetry and song. These two troubadours and former teachers, both based in CT, — Cy at Choate Rosemary Hall and Nick at The Stanwich School— have been friends since they met at Hebron Academy in Maine in 1969. These days they still enjoy sharing their love of poetry and music with students and friends. Join us in the afternoon or evening for this special edition of Poetry at the Grange!
This special program will not include time for the audience to offer their poetry - but there will be plenty of time during our May Open Mic.
Poetry at the Grange is held every second Thursday at the Charlotte Grange Hall in collaboration with the Charlotte Public Library. The winter poetry program runs from 1-2:30pm and the spring/summer/fall program runs from 6:30-8pm. April’s events will be held at the Library and Senior Center due to the temporary closure of our second floor.

Kids Clothing Drive Drop Off Dates
Get ready for another season of the Charlotte Hand-Me-Downs kids' clothing drive! As you're cleaning out closets and getting ready for warmer weather ahead, please consider donating outgrown kids' clothes, outerwear, and footwear so they can be shared with other families in our community.
In person drop-off dates are Monday 4/13 from 8:30-10:00 and Saturday 4/18 from 10:00-12:30. Please consider coming at an in-person time if you are donating large quantities. In addition, there will be a large sealed bin on the porch at the Grange Hall (2858 Spear St.) for anyone who may want to drop donations off at other times during our collection period: Saturday 4/11 - Friday 4/24.
The Charlotte Hand-Me-Downs project is a program of the Charlotte Grange. Every spring and fall local families gather clothes their children or teenagers have outgrown and drop them at the Grange. Volunteers then sort the clothes by size and make a bag for each child served by the Charlotte Food Shelf. Any donations not needed by Charlotte families will be donated to community support organizations in neighboring towns.
The Charlotte Food Shelf is committed to provide support to our neighbors with food and assistance. To learn more, visit https://www.charlotteucc.org/copy-of-charlotte-food-shelf-1
Repair Cafe
Volunteers offer free repair of household and personal items while you wait, in exchange for a non-perishable food or monetary donation to Charlotte Food Shelf.

History of the 1870 Grange Hall
Interested in the history of Charlotte Grange Hall and in historic preservation? Join us at the Grange on April 21st from 6:30 – 8:00 pm to hear about the history of this historic building.
We will have a presentation by Dan Cole, President of the Charlotte Historical Society and Aileen Williams, M.S. in Historic Preservation about current work to have the Hall listed on the National Register of Historic Places. New insights into the history of this historic building have come about because of Aileen’s year-long project to nominate the building for listing on the Register. Dan has been incredibly helpful with the project and knows the wonderful twists and turns that saw the building operate as a debating society, one-room school and Grange meeting place. We will have a chance to ask questions and refreshments will be served.
Should our parking lot fill up, please park at the Catholic Church just south of the Grange, by the fence. Follow the orange cones. Kindly stay home if you are feeling sick and mask up if you have been exposed to someone with a contagious respiratory ailment.
This event is part of an every-other-month 2026 Lecture Series at the Charlotte Grange Hall. Interested community members are invited to join Charlotte Grange Members in learning about a variety of Grange-related topics on the third Tuesday evening of February, April, June, August, and October. Lectures will be followed by an opportunity for questions and conversation. Refreshments will be served.
Charlotte Walks
We hope you can join us for our first "Charlotte Walks" of 2026, at the Williams Woods Natural Area on Friday, April 24.
About Charlotte Walks:
Once a month, usually on the third Friday of the month, we meet at 8:30 at a different Charlotte trailhead for a morning walk. It's a great way to get more familiar with Charlotte's public trails, and to meet up and chat with other Charlotters. Walks usually last about an hour to an hour and a half, and are generally led at a comfortable adult walking pace, but we definitely stop to look at the flowers and listen to the birds.
For this month's walk:
We'll meet on 4/24 (we're Walking on the Fourth Friday just for April), at 8:30 at the parking lot of the Williams Woods Natural Area on Greenbush Road in Charlotte, about a mile south of the Thompson Point Road intersection. The trail is a one mile loop through the "best remaining mature valley clayplain forest in the Champlain Valley." It also is home to many spring natural wonders - vernal pools with amphibian eggs, ephemeral wild flowers, and beaver activity. Trail conditions are unpredictable this time of year, so we recommend that you wear boots or shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy!
Charlotte Flea
Charlotte Flea is embracing Charlotte’s flea history, community, & finding new homes for previously loved items. Antiques, vintage items, jewelry, textiles, hobby times, ceramics, sporting goods, & more.
Learn more by emailing charlottevtflea@gmail.com. Profit from booth fees will be donated to the Charlotte Grange.

Veteran's Town Hall
All are invited to a Vets Town Hall at the Charlotte Grange on Friday, November 14th, 2025, at 6:30pm. Veterans are invited to speak about what their service means to them. Non-veterans are encouraged to attend and listen. This event is free, non-political, and all perspectives are valued. There will be no debate on American foreign policy.
RSVPs are optional, but encouraged. Click here to RSVP. If you are interested in speaking, we'd especially appreciate an RSVP! Spontaneous speakers are also very welcome. Snacks will be available.
More information available at https://www.vtvetstownhall.org/event/charlotte-vets-town-hall/
What to Expect
For all attendees: All community members are invited to this event. Only veterans will speak, but non-veterans are encouraged to attend and listen. Throughout the event, you may hear something you agree or disagree with. You may have a question. Or you may want to say encouraging words with the intention to help. However, we ask that you please refrain from responding. We are simply here to listen and learn about what it was like to serve in the wars that this nation has chosen to fight.
For speakers: Tell us what your service means to you. Please tell us about your own experiences, whatever they may be, rather than speaking broadly about an issue or organization. You’re a member of our community, and it’s your stories, reflections, and insights that we’re anxious to hear. If you’re interested in speaking but aren’t sure what to speak about, click here for some questions that can serve as starting points. Each veteran will be given up to 10 minutes to speak. Veterans who would like to speak can mark that preference when registering. If you’re considering speaking but prefer not to register, we encourage you to attend. After pre-registered speakers go, the host will take speakers from the floor, time permitting. The goal is for every veteran who would like to speak to have a chance to do so. Of course, veterans (and all community members) are also welcome to simply attend and listen.
Wildlife In Our Own Backyard
Join Peter Demick of the Charlotte Conservation Commission for a 24-minute video of local wildlife, captured through trail cameras right here in Charlotte.
This unique footage is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness and appreciation for the rich biodiversity in our community.
Following the video, there will be a Q&A session and an opportunity to learn how you can get more involved in conservation initiatives in Charlotte.
Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply curious, this is a great chance to connect and contribute to local environmental stewardship.
Please note: this event will be held on the second floor, which is not handicap accessible.

Chen Taiji is the original root source of a variety of different styles known around the world today.
Objectives of this Introductory Class: This class lays the foundation of the practice of Taiji, focused on the teachings of relaxation of the body, the importance of posture alignment and awareness of our center of gravity, and how to move without obstruction with a calm and focused mind.

Charlotte Walks: Raven Ridge
Join us for this month's "Charlotte Walks"!
On the third Friday of each month, we meet at 8:30 at a different Charlotte trailhead for a morning walk. It's a great way to get more familiar with Charlotte's public trails, and to meet up and chat with other Charlotters. Walks usually last about an hour and are led at a comfortable adult walking pace.
This month we’re going to try a new trail slightly off the beaten tracks of Charlotte. It looks like the sun will come back out by Friday and it should be a glorious, colorful time to walk the Raven Ridge Loop Trail. The Raven Ridge Natural Area has been preserved through efforts of several conservation groups and individuals due to its exceptional wildlife habitat and location within a wildlife corridor.
The trail begins with an accessible 0.3 mile board walk trail which leads through a beautiful cattail marsh to a peaceful beaver pond. Those wishing to ascend up to the ridge will be rewarded with magnificent views of Lake Champlain and the Champlain Valley. The area offers views of cliffs, vernal pools, interesting geological outcrops, historic artifacts, and even a cave for the very adventurous. The entire loop is 2.6 miles long with some elevation gain. However, a lovely morning can be had staying on the trails in the low lands.
We will meet on Friday, 10/17 at 8:30 at the parking area located at 1279 Rotax Road. To get there from Route 7 in Ferrisburg, turn east onto Old Hollow. Old Hollow Rd will become Hollow Rd. Just after you pass the intersection with Higbee Rd take a slight left onto Rotax Rd. Follow Rotax for 2.1 miles and you will see the parking lot on the right. Parking is extremely limited so please carpool if you can. You can park along the road a bit but be cautious. If you have questions, you can text or call Abby at 802-343-6807.
Shout out to our partners on the Charlotte Trails Committee for maintaining this and other trails in our town. You can find out more about the trails - and the committee - on the town website (or, come to this walk and ask us!).
